Great place to walk and look around. It is very beautiful to see all of the memorials and stones. Even if you are driving through slowly with the window down, it's a great way to spend an afternoon.

There are quite a few dead people here. Check it out! They're fun to talk too!

There is no better way to kick off the Halloween season in Rochester than by attending the Friends of Mount Hope Cemetery TORCHLIGHT TOURS. It was awesome to see the entire graveyard of Mt. Hope light up with torches along the paths, and gravestones. The tour guides are very informative about the "dark" history of Rochester's colonial pioneers'. They will guide you along the spooky path around important landmarked gravestones. Some stories are not for the faint of heart, and will have your heart racing as you move to the next stone. At certain stops you will see actors dressed in spooky colonial outfits like the ghosts of Frederick Douglass, and Susan B. Anthony. The actors put on a great show with their theatrical performance, allowing the audience to participate with them. At certain stops, you can go inside the old mausoleums that are usually closed to the public. The mausoleums are spooky, dark, and cramped which gave you this feeling of walking through the catacombs. You can also see the old crematorium where they used to burn the bodies, where you feel the thickness in the air with the spirits. Jack Skeleton was not jumping down these old chimneys', and thank god for that. The scary tour ends at the Mt.Hope Cemetery Visitors' Center where cider and doughnuts are provided by Wegmans. Remember, you do not want to drink too much of the cider because you have to walk back.
Overall: Halloween Fun, Torchlights, Gravestones, Mausoleums', Crematoriums, Amazing Actors, and The Ghost of Frederick Douglass...I Will Be Back.Added November 22, 2016 by Paul Cicotta - ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
It's more like a beautiful park than a cemetery. During the summer I always take walks/go running here, it's so peaceful and historic.

Legendary, historic, beautiful place in Rochester. So many famous figures lay to rest in this breathtakingly gorgeous sprawling park. A true land of history and mystery!
